THE HISTORY AND EVOLUTION OF QUINEBAUG LODGE
First Lodge – 1796 Salem Towne House – Now at located at O.S.V.
New Masonic Building – Located at 339 Asland Avenue, Southbridge, Mass. 01550 (U.S.A)

Fayette Lodge, Charlton, First Masonic Lodge in this vicinity granted a Charter.
1799 – January 10th
Fayetta Lodge granted permission by Grand Lodge to meet annually by rotation in
Charlton, Sturbridge, Dudley, parts of which became Southbridge in 1816.
1826 – June 14th
Doric Lodge Charter granted. The Lodge met in the hotel which stood at the corner of
Main and Central streets. (This charter was later returned to Grand Lodge and
destroyed in the fire of 1864).
1859 – December 7th
Dispensation granted to S. A. Drake and others to organize Quinebaug Lodge.
1859 – December 13th
First meeting of Quinebaug Lodge held.
1860 – January 2nd
First regular communication of Quinebaug Lodge. The Lodge room for the first year
was on the second floor of the Thimblin Block, now known as the Costa Building.
1860 – December 12th
Charter granted to Quinebaug Lodge by M. W. Winslow Lewis, Grand Master.
1870 – November 2nd
Lodge moved to rooms in the Whitford Block.
1905 – March 14th
Lodge rooms in the Masonic Building at 284 Main street were dedicated by M. W.
Baalis Sanford, Grand Master.
1934 – December 7th
75th anniversary of Quinebaug Lodge observed.
1953 – May 15th
Visitation by M. W. Thomas Sherrard Roy, Grand Master.
1960 – May 8th
The Masonic Building having been sold, the vacated its quarters and began looking
for site to build a Temple. Meetings were held in basement of the Central Baptist Church in the interim.
1969 – October 13th
First meeting held at Ashland Avenue Building.
1970
Lodge moved into new quarters on Ashland Avenue. Work renovation, building and refurbishing begun.
1972 – April 29th
Dedication of Temple by M.W. Donald W. Vose, Grand Master.

Founded in 1859, Quinebaug Lodge A.F. & A.M. Is in the 24th Masonic Districts of The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Grand Lodge (of Mass). The Lodge holds its meetings in the Masonic building in Southbridge (Mass) and qualified Brethren are always warmly welcome and encouraged to visit. |
